Attention those of you who enjoy Netflix’s Instant Streaming! It seems that Netflix has recently overloaded their Instant Streaming with tons of horror titles. There’s a lot to choose from: the good, the bad, the fun, the out of print and even some titles that aren’t released on DVD. Be sure to see what’s available, I am pretty impressed with what’s offered.
Here’s just a small taste of what you can watch:
Friday the 13th 1-6
Empire of the Ants
Dr. Phibes Rises Again
The Video Dead (not available on DVD)
New Year’s Evil (not available on DVD)
Deranged (based on Ed Gein)
Crawlspace
Black Sabbath (great anthology starring Boris Karloff and directed by Bava)
Squirm (tons of worms!!!)
Intruder (gory slasher with Sam and Ted Raimi and Bruce Campbell)
TROLL 2!!!
Again, this is just a fraction of what’s available so poke around, you are bound to find something you’ve been dying to see. And better yet, take this as a time to discover some titles you haven’t heard of.
I’m going to shake things up a bit and NOT talk about INFECTION 2010…at least for a little bit. This past weekend something pretty wild happened. A $1.8 million dollar horror film opened in theaters across the country and battled a $20 million film (Takers) for the number one spot at the box office. Takers did claim the top spot, but The Last Exorcism (a Lionsgate release) barely lost. Obviously the horror genre has gained in popularity in recent years, so while a horror film having a successful opening weekend isn’t exactly earth shaking, an independently shot ORIGINAL film with unknown actors doing so well (especially against a studio film) is worth noting.
While we have not seen The Last Exorcism yet, this doesn’t change the fact that this is a huge “breath of fresh air”. Damn, that phrase is so cheesy but I can’t think of anything better at this moment. Seriously though, it’s about damn time. When I discovered the news about The Last Exorcism almost conquering the box office, the mega-huge horror nerd in me couldn’t help but cheer. Our beloved genre has been over-saturated with cheap and mindless remakes of films we hold so true it seems the masses could care less if horror continues to be watered down. (more…)

We made it…well, at least with the episodes. The true test will be if we survive this final week before Infection 2010: The Second Annual Oshkosh Zombie Walk. Things are coming together but the pressure is on. Be sure to watch Adam and John as they give you a few reminders for Infection 2010.
Hey guys! Posted some links on the Infection page that will provide some information on how to do some make-up and blood for the Zombie Walk this year. Check em out!
Wes Craven. No one can argue the relevance and importance the name Craven means to the horror genre. Starting in 1972 with his feature debut, The Last House On The Left, Craven has been one of the biggest names in horror, and now he’s back. Sure, Scream 4 is on it’s way but that’s not what we are talking about. Today, we are talking about My Soul To Take (formally known as 25/8), a new slasher flick written and direct by Craven. According to IMDb.com, “a serial killer returns to his hometown to stalk seven children who share the same birthday as the date he was allegedly put to rest.” I have been (loosely) following this film since it was announced, mainly because an early description was stated that My Soul To Take is like Stand By Me with knives and blood. Being that Stand By Me is one of my favorite films I couldn’t help but be curious.
No Episode Five this week, boys and girls. We will return to our regular programming next Sunday. This week we wanted to share the TV commercial we shot for Oshkosh Community Media, which will run until the Zombie Walk on Sept. 4. So those of you with public access, keep your eyes glued to the tube to see us, or you can just watch it now!
To some of us, Friday the 13ths are more of a holiday than Christmas, too bad not more people feel the same way. Regardless, we at OshkoshHorror.com want to wish you all a happy Friday the 13th and hope you take some time to celebrate with a certain masked killer.
