Now, we know what you’re thinking: there’s no Friday Fright Night on September 23. I’ve had the schedule memorized all year and there is nothing scheduled for that night. Well, my friends, you are partially correct. There WAS nothing scheduled for this night… until now. We’re not ready for FFN to end for the year, are you?!
Back in June, we helped bring the Mihmiverse to Oshkosh. For those who don’t remember, upon viewing, one would expect the Mihmiverse films to be from the 1950s and 1960s, but we have some news for you: They aren’t. In fact, they are Minnesota writer/producer/director Christopher R. Mihm’s black and white love letters to the B-movies of yesteryear. So, in other words, if you enjoy the regular Friday Fright Night programming, you are going to love Monster of Phantom Lake!
A shell-shocked ex-soldier transformed by Atomic Waste into a revolting monster wreaks havoc at a high-school graduation party in writer/producer/director Christopher R. Mihm’s first film, a monochromatic tribute to the B-movie flicks of the 1950s. The summer sun is shining and a group of recently graduated teens has taken to the outdoors to celebrate their newfound freedom. Something horrific is afoot in Phantom Lake, though, and as the rampaging beast makes his presence known to the horrified teens, a dedicated scientist and his beautiful graduate student soon realize that they may have just stumbled upon one of the most important scientific discoveries of their lifetime.
We are treating this just like any of FFN; doors open at 7:30pm, movie starts at 8pm and the admission is FREE! As you should always do with any Oshkosh Horror event, mark your calendars and bring your friends!
Friday Fright Night, the bi-weekly celebration of 1950′s and 60′s B-movies, debuted in April 2010 at the Time Community Theater, and with the help of so many outstanding attendees became a huge success! Through the 14 weeks of films, we were able to raise over $3,000 for the Time and not only that, but met a lot of great people and had a blast with the “classics” of yesteryear. With Friday Fright Night being such a success, we’d be crazy not to bring it back, right? Well, we are excited to announce the return of the one, the only… Fright Fright Night!
The 2011 season will be kicking off at 8PM on Friday, April 1 (no joke) with The Terror, directed by Roger Corman and starting Boris Karloff, Jack Nicholson and Dick Miller. Friday Fright Night will be taking over the Time Community Theater once again, located at 445 N. Main St. in Downtown Oshkosh. And the best part is that ALL the movies are still FREE!!! We have tons of free stuff planned this year so be sure to mark your calendars!
The first ever Friday Fright Night series was an enormous success. Not only have we seen many new faces over the past five months, but we’ve also managed to work together and raise a good deal of money for the theater that will help us make some much needed improvements during the off-season!
So let’s celebrate this successful first season of free movies with one last flick! At 8pm on 9/24 join us for CREATURE FROM THE HAUNTED SEA!
Creature from the Haunted Sea is a 1961 film directed by Roger Corman. Written by Charles B. Griffith, the film is a parody of spy, gangster and monster movies, concerning a secret agent, XK150 (played by Robert Towne under the pseudonym “Edward Wain”), who goes under the code name “Sparks Moran” in order to infiltrate a criminal gang led by Renzo Capetto (Antony Carbone), who is trying to transport a colonel, a group of exiled Cuban nationals, and a large portion of the Cuban treasury out of the country.
This year INFECTION 2010 isn’t just a one day event, we are taking over an entire week! Things start with the grandaddy of zombie films, the one and only Night of the Living Dead! Night introduced the world to cannibalistic zombies in 1968 and has changed horror ever since. Hell, without this flick there might not have ever been an Oshkosh Zombie Walk. Night is part of Friday Fright Night, our bi-weekly screenings of classic 50s and 60s horror/sci-fi films at the Time Community Theater (445 N. Main St., Downtown Oshkosh). So come join us as we begin the fun of INFECTION 2010: The Second Annual Oshkosh Zombie Walk. The movie starts at 8pm and is FREE! Plus there’s a free raffle to win a $25 to The Exclusive Company. How can you pass it up; free movie, free raffle, cheap snacks, good company and zombies! Check out the trailer below and also the poster for the full line-up.
Our last Friday Fright Night feature, House on Haunted Hill, was an absolute blast! Thanks so much to everyone who came out to see Emergo in all it’s glory. Following up that evening will be tough, but if any film can do it, it’s Plan 9 From Outer Space! After the embarrassing failure of the first eight plans, a group of evil aliens enacts plan nine — resurrecting the dead to take over the Earth. Bela Lugosi makes his final film appearance — along with Vampira, Tor Johnson, Criswell and a chiropractor acquaintance of director Ed Wood. This film has been labeled one of worst films since it were released in 1958 and while that is up for debate, one thing is for certain, Plan 9 must be seen to believe it. Be sure to check out Plan 9 From Outer Space this Friday @ 8pm at The Time Community Theater (445 N. Main St. Downtown Oshkosh)! How can you pass it up; free movie, cheap snacks and good company. Check out the trailer below and also the poster for the full line-up.
Dear, dear friends & visitors!
We’re ever so excited to bring you HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL this FRIDAY as the latest installment of our Friday Fright Night series.
No, we are not showing the film from 1999, we are showing the good ole’ 1959 original House on Haunted Hill. Our second Vincent Price flick (can you blame us, I mean it’s Vincent Price!!!) features the legend as millionaire Frederick Loren, who offers five people $10,000 to stay a night in a remote haunted house, giving each of them a loaded gun as a “party favor.” Throughout the night, they’re terrorized by skeletons, disembodied heads and other grisly apparitions. Will any of the guests survive to win the prize? Or will the house scare them to death?
This night is going to bring something a little special. When House on Haunted Hill was originally released in 1959 it was released in a new technique called “Emergo”, which meant part of the film actually came out of the screen into the audience. Director William Castle was known for his fun and exciting gimmicks with his films, something a well-known director decided to imitate (cough, cough, Hictchcock!). Sure, it’s 41 years later but “Emergo” lives on. We at Friday Fright Night will be presenting House on Haunted Hill in “Emergo”. For some of us this might be a once in a lifetime event so this is something you don’t want to miss. The night is still going to be terrific so venture down to The Time next Friday @ 8pm. How can you pass it up; free movie, cheap snacks and good company. Bring your friends and check out the trailer below.
Here is the one of the original trailers, we’re looking forward to seeing you there!!
Friday Fright Night presents Attack of the Giant Leeches – This Friday, May 14 8PM
Let’s be honest here: Who doesn’t love a great cheesy 50s flick that contains giant, larger-than-human leeches terrorizing the Florida Everglades? Said to be a response to fears of the Cold War, Attack of the Giant Leeches feature this and so much more. Be sure to check out Attack of the Giant Leeches this Friday @ 8pm at The Time Community Theater (445 N. Main St. Downtown Oshkosh)! How can you pass it up; free movie, cheap snacks and good company. Check out the trailer below and also the poster for the full line-up.
