The end of the world starts at midnight…not if The Monster Squad has any say in the matter. Dracula, the Wolfman, Frankenstein, the Mummy and Gill Man descend on a tiny town in search of a diabolically powerful amulet. But only 12-year-old Sean and his gang of monster-obsessed misfits can save the day…unless Scary German Guy gets to them first. And if they can find a version. No, that’s virgin. Hopefully they will have better luck than Van Helsing, that idiot blew it. Okay, okay, okay, enough with the movie references.
One could think of The Monster Squad as if the Universal Monsters invaded The Goonies, but regardless of how you want to describe it, one thing holds true: this is one fun movie. Perhaps you saw it when you were younger, not too long ago or never. There’s no better time to (re)discover The Monster Squad then with the House of Horrors gang so mark your calendars!
As always, the movie is free and open to the public. Bring your friends!
We had a terrific turnout for our Three Year Anniversary last month, hell, we almost ran out of seats! It’s so great to see horror fans of all ages, sizes and types get together and celebrate our beloved genre.
This month’s movie probably doesn’t even need a description. One word says it all: Jaws. That’s right, the one and only, Jaws. Just when you thought it was safe to go in the water…
For a little extra fun come just to see John squirm and freak out to the movie that still traumatizes him to this day. As always, the movie is free and open to the public. Bring your friends!
House of Horrors 3 Year Anniversary with Shaun of the Dead – Saturday, June 19 8PM
That’s right, we have been going strong for 3 years at House of Horrors and can’t think of a better way to celebrate than with Shaun of the Dead. We have received a ton of suggestions to play Shaun over the past 3 years and now you got it. We will be starting the evening at 8PM and will be hosting another game of Horror Movie Pictionary. We played this last year at our 2 year anniversary and was ever so popular so we have to do it again. Following Pictionary will be a small collection of some great, some hilarious, vintage horror movie trailers and then the one and only Shaun of the Dead! Closing out the night will be another fierce round of Horror Movie Trivia. If just somehow you have not seen Shaun of the Dead it’s okay, you need to and here’s your chance. It’s pretty obvious, but we are making a whole night of our 3 year anniversary so show up for the free food, prizes, fun and stay for Shaun. As always it’s free to the public, so bring your friends and enjoy an evening of celebrating your love of horror!
Oshkosh Horror presents A Special Screening of Henry: Portrait Of A Serial Killer – Friday, June 18 8PM – Time Community Theater – $3 at the door and 17+
Loosely based on real life serial killer Henry Lee Lucas, Henry (1986) takes a very realistic and disturbing approach at portraying the life of a nomadic madman living in a world where all he sees are victims. Michael Rooker (Slither, Mallrats, Cliffhanger) makes his film debut and gives a haunting performance as the twisted madman Henry, and Tom Towles (Night of the Living Dead remake, House of 1,000 Corpses, The Devil’s Rejects) plays Otis, a prison buddy of Henry’s who is learning about the darker side of life from Henry. This film is on many Top… lists from such sources as Entertainment Weekly, Bravo and Rotten Tomatoes. Even Siskel and Ebert could not deny the power and rawness of Henry.
There will be an admission fee of $3, with all proceeds going to the Time Community Theater. Due to the graphic nature of this film, no one under 17 will be allowed in without a parental figure. Be sure to bring your ID, no ID = no movie.
We have had great turnouts so far this year and a lot of fun to boot, so let’s keep it going!
The double features have, sadly, come to an end… for now. They will be back once fall rolls around, though. This month we are showing something a little different from past House of Horrors screenings. It doesn’t have zombies, a slasher, werewolves or anything like that. This one is a psychological horror film… and that film happen to be:
JACOB’S LADDER
New York postal worker Jacob Singer (Tim Robbins) is trying to keep his frayed life from unraveling. His days are increasingly being invaded by flashbacks to his first marriage, his now-dead son, and his tour of duty in Vietnam. Although his new wife tries to help Jacob keep his grip on sanity, the line between reality and delusion is steadily growing more and more uncertain.
